Help Your Neighbors: Bid on Instagram!

By Christy Knell
July 10, 2021

* UPDATE! *

The Instagram auction successfully secured $2,550 in donations from all of you generous dear souls! Winners chose one of the four Rivertowns organizations listed below (some divided it among multiple orgs!) to donate their winning bid amount, and we then connected them with their equally generous business counterpart to claim their item.

If you missed out on the auction, don’t fret—we’ll hold another in the fall. Anyone who wants to know about future fundraisers, either for donations or worthy causes or just to shop wildly, join our mailing list or email us to express your interest!

Summer vacation is in full swing, and for many families in the Rivertowns, this season means additional expenses around childcare and supplies to an already stretched budget.

Village summer camps are not just places to learn new skills and play with friends, they are safe places for kids to go in lieu of school that allow parents to continue to work. While municipalities strive to keep camp fees as low as possible, the cost can be a hardship for many, but a necessity as well. Summer spending increases again in August as school supplies are purchased in advance of the fall semester.

This July, HudCo will hold another online auction via Instagram to raise money to support the organizations that help families get through these summer expenses. Back in February, the HudCo community raised $6,880 for the Urban League of Westchester—let’s see if we can do as well this month!

The winners of our auctions will be asked to donate their winning bid to one of four organizations—each dedicated to helping families afford things like school supplies and summer camps to families in the four Rivertown villages:

  • Spring Community Partners provides guidance and assistance to support children’s educational, recreational, and social activities in the Village of Dobbs Ferry.
  • The Bulldog Family Fund raises funds to ensure that all students in the Irvington School District are able to participate in daily life alongside their peers.
  • The Panthers Family Fund provides scholarships for students who need financial assistance to participate in basic educational and after school activities/programs offered at our schools.
  • The Hastings Youth Council offers support and resources to the youth of Hastings-on-Hudson and their families by maintaining community outreach programs, drug prevention programs, counseling, volunteer and job opportunities, and by offering a safe haven for children of all ages.

We’re collecting a spectacular selection of items to bid on, from your local favorites like At Land, Boro6 Wine Bar (above), tony B. handbags, Hastings Sewing Studio, and Stelmah Photo. Auction items will be posted on our Instagram feed beginning Friday, 7/16.

How do you bid?

Write your maximum offer in a new comment (do not reply to another bid or comment, it may get missed!). You MUST submit your bid via a comment on the item post only. We will not accept requests via DM or email.

How do you win?

Minimum bid increment will be listed in each post. Bidding closes Friday, July 23, 2021, at 9:00 PM EST.

The winning bid total is inclusive of any shipping to the US only (local pickups at HudCo are encouraged!). At the close of the auction, we will DM all highest bidders with instructions on next steps. The winner will have 48 hours to show proof of donation. Failure of full donation results in the watch going to the next highest bidder. Winner will coordinate delivery directly with auction item owner.

Follow along on our Instagram feed starting Friday—discover local businesses, shop for friends and family, and support families through the pricey summer months.
