Some businesses begin with a grand plan. Kinetic Dynamics began with a quiet refusal: refusing to rush, to divide attention, to treat pain like a number on a chart.
Kerri Demitrovic wanted something simpler and better — a patient-first physical therapy practice built on true 1-to-1 care where every session would be focused, deliberate, and rooted in listening. One person. One hour. Full attention.
An email from HudCo cofounder Kat Bagby led her to the new coworking space in 2019, where the right kind of ecosystem was already in place. The wellness room for Kerri’s practice were situated nearby collaborative neighbors, creative business minds down the hall. What she found wasn’t just space, but infrastructure: referrals, marketing guidance, equipment support, and a community that made growth feel shared rather than solitary.
Take us back to the beginning: what inspired you to start your business and how did you end up at HudCo?
I wanted to create a patient-focused physical therapy experience where I could have a better work/home balance. I really wanted to create a great experience for patients and help them alleviate their pain and overcome their limitations, enabling them to live fuller lives.
Thanks to the introduction by fellow PT (and HudCo cofounder) Kat Bagby, I happily moved my business to HudCo. This coworking space, which includes dedicated wellness rooms, offered the ideal supportive environment for expansion. Here I found a network of wellness providers to collaborate with, as well as business owners who offered valuable assistance with branding, marketing, and networking, all of which contributed significantly to the growth of my business.
What makes your 1-to-1 physical therapy model different from a traditional clinic experience?
My model is fundamentally different because it prioritizes focused, individualized care and patient empowerment. In a traditional clinic, a physical therapist often manages multiple patients at once, utilizing aides or assistants. This means less direct time with the licensed PT.
At Kinetic Dynamics, I provide 100% focused, 1-to-1 care for the entire session—from evaluation to treatment. This allows me to deeply listen and connect, to fully understand someone’s unique pain story, limitations, and goals. I can provide clear, actionable plans, since I can spend the time to develop and practice a precise, tailored treatment strategy. I’m also able to maximize every minute with continuous, expert attention. All of this leads to faster progress and a more effective plan for self-management, rather than relying on shared care with aides.
We know you’re unique in that you use the McKenzie Method in your practice. Can you explain it in simple terms, and why you chose to become credentialed in it?
The McKenzie Method is an assessment process for necks, back, arm/leg pain. Here’s the simple idea:
- Test Movements: The therapist has you do a series of repeated movements or hold certain positions.
- Look for a Pattern: Observing how movements affect your pain helps find a specific direction (e.g., bending backward/forward) that lessens pain or moves it from a wide area (e.g., down your leg) to a smaller, central spot (e.g., lower back only). This is called Centralization.
- Self-Treatment: Once that “best direction” is found, the treatment focuses heavily on you repeatedly doing that specific exercise at home. The goal is to teach you how to manage and treat your pain yourself using simple movements, with hands-on treatment from the therapist as needed.
I chose to pursue credentials in the McKenzie Method because of its consistent success in quickly improving patient outcomes. This approach is valuable not only for empowering patients to take control of their own treatment but also for providing them with education on future prevention.
How did being part of the HudCo community influence the growth of your business?
The access to specialized marketing and branding experts within my fellow members has been invaluable. Navigating the competitive landscape requires strategic visibility, and my neighbors provide continuous guidance, which helps me refine my outreach, establish a strong local brand, and connect with the patients who need my specialized services. A particularly valuable connection has been with AI experts. They’ve guided me on the efficient integration of AI tools into daily business operations. This includes streamlining administrative tasks and leveraging data for improved clinical outcomes and client management.
Beyond the business sector, I’ve established strong professional relationships within the holistic health community at HudCo, specifically with certified Pilates instructors and licensed acupuncturists. We can collaborate on shared clients, providing a more integrated approach to wellness that extends beyond traditional physical therapy. Interaction with practitioners from different fields offers new clinical perspectives on movement, pain management, and long-term health strategies. These established connections form a high-quality, dependable network. I confidently refer clients to competent professionals for needs outside my specialty, and they reciprocate, strengthening our mutual business.
The HudCo team ensured my practice was equipped with necessary, high-quality PT equipment, which significantly reduced the initial capital investment and ongoing maintenance stress. Having immediate access to professional-grade tools allows me to focus purely on patient care and the clinical aspects of my work.
Most importantly, however, is the emphasis on genuine relationship building within the community. This environment fosters organic networking, which has been instrumental in growing my referral base and integrating my business deeper into the local professional ecosystem.
What’s a common misconception people have about physical therapy?
One misunderstanding is that physical therapy is solely a reactive treatment—something you seek only after a major injury or when pain has become chronic and severe. The sooner you start physical therapy, the better your outcome. Delaying treatment often leads to compensatory movement, increased stiffness, and a longer recovery. Early intervention addresses the root cause of discomfort immediately, preventing chronic issues and accelerating your return to full, pain-free function.
For someone working at a desk all day, what are a couple small adjustments that can make a big difference?
First, set your base:
- Sit back with low-back support
- Hips slightly higher than knees
- Feet supported (use a book/footrest if needed)
Next, get your screen up.
- Bring the top of your screen closer to eye level
- If you use a laptop, use a laptop stand (ex: Roost stand / rooststand.com) + ideally an external keyboard/mouse
Then, keep your arms close.
- Keyboard/mouse close to you
- Elbows near your sides (~90°), shoulders relaxed, wrists neutral
Finally, and most importantly: change positions often. Rotate sit → stand → walk throughout the day (even 30–60 seconds counts).
