Meet your Instructor:
Sharon returned to a career devoted to movement after a hiatus that lead her to work in academia and non-profit. She is excited to be re-devoting her work life to teaching Pilates and ballet. This career move feels a bit like coming home. Sharon has been practicing Pilates for over 20 years, trained and worked professionally as a classical ballet dancer and was a member of Eglevsky Ballet under the direction of Jane Miller and Paul Gifford. As a young dancer she performed with New York City Ballet in works choreographed by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. Her training includes North Carolina School of the Arts, The Rock School of Pennsylvania Ballet and Mid-Atlantic Ballet. Sharon has taught both children and adult classes and relishes the opportunity to bring a sense of body awareness and joy of movement and dance to new students.
It is through dance that Sharon discovered Pilates as a tool for rehabilitation, cross training and general movement well-being. Later she would return to Pilates after the birth of each of her four children to regain core strength and she was even more impressed with the versatile nature of Pilates as a path to healthy movement, strength, flexibility and control. Having worked as a physical therapy aid for three years while in graduate school Sharon has always been interested in the mechanics of movement. Sharon received her Comprehensive Pilates Certification and is skilled at teaching both Mat and reformer classes. She currently teaches Pilates through her company In Motion Pilates and adult ballet classes and Pilates workshops at MK Dance on Hudson. Sharon holds a MS in Social Research and in her previous career worked as a Program Evaluations Officer at Columbia University and Research Scientist at the NYU Child Study Center. Sharon and her husband moved from Washington Heights to the Rivertowns with their four children in 2015.
