This or That: Our Mother’s Day Vendors’ Favorite Things

by | Apr 27, 2025

We hand-picked the small businesses for this year’s Mother’s Day Bazaar, pulling from past favorites and connecting with new ones for an intimate, enjoyable shopping experience this Thursday, May 1. Whether you’re shopping for your mom, your favorite teacher (yes—it’s Teacher Appreciation Week too!), or just treating yourself, this lineup of local makers has something truly special.

To help you get to know them before the big day, we asked each vendor to answer a few fun “This or That” questions. Latte or cortado? Peonies or ranunculus? Gold or silver? These are the questions that tell us who we are, so discover who you agree with and who you need to chat up for further discussion.

Come for the flowers, stay for the stories (and the perfect gift you didn’t know you needed), Thursday, May 1, from 11am to 4pm at HudCo.

Adonia Floral Design

Andrea Perrone brings a stunning selection of candles, vessels, and treats. “I’m excited to share some new arrivals that would make wonderful gifts: Brooklyn Candle Studio’s new limited edition fragrant candles are available in two delicious, gorgeously scented fragrances and beautiful packaging. New flower press kits by British company Studio Wald. These lovely sets are available in two sizes, including a pocket version perfect for taking on nature walks. These are ideal for the crafty mom!”

  • Bold colors or soft pastels? Soft muted pastels
  • Fresh-cut or dried flowers? I love them both.
  • Bouquets or arrangements? Arrangements — I love the creative opportunity with different style vases.
  • Single stem moment or lush abundance? While single stem arrangements are elegant, I prefer to use a variety of beautiful flowers.
  • Glass vase or ceramic vessel? Flowers arranged in a handmade ceramic vessel are very elevated — almost like a living work of art.
  • Peonies or ranunculus? Gosh! Both are gorgeous but nothing beats a Coral Charm Peony – they are considered queens of the garden.
  • Seasonal stars or year-round favorites? Always seasonal.
  • Garden-grown or locally sourced? I do not have a green thumb and attempted many times to grow my own flowers, so I rely on my local flower growers.
  • Early morning market run or late-night arranging? How about both! I love the excitement of an early market run — the potential floral treasures and then enjoy arranging quietly at night.

Bloomy Cheese and Provisions

Jessica Bloom Galen returns to her roots here at HudCo, popping up with an assortment of domestic and imported cut-to-order artisan cheeses, fine charcuterie and pantry items, and handmade gifts. “The butter dish is the my current favorite item — it’s handmade and hand-painted in Queens by ceramic artist Michelle Im,” Jess says. “Each piece is one-of-a-kind and created just for Bloomy around a dairy animal theme.”

  • Aged cheddar or fresh mozzarella? Aged cheddar, what a leap of faith for a cheesemaker!
  • Brie or blue? Blue, just because so many people think they don’t like it but maybe just haven’t ever tried the right one for them.

  • Savory pairings or sweet pairings? Always, always savory.
  • Cheese board or grilled cheese? Cheese board unless the grilled cheese has a really fancy Alpine cheese in it.
  • Crumbly or creamy? Creamy.
  • Local farms or international imports? COME ON NOW! I love all my children equally! I’ll say this: I default to a local farm when the cheese is absolutely delicious; some of the best cheeses I’ve ever had are made in the U.S., and it’s so important for us to support local cheesemaking. But if there is a regional specialty from abroad that is so connected to its terroir and can’t be replicated here, and that’s many of them, I want to honor that tradition and those flavors by bringing in the original.
  • Wine pairing or beer pairing? I prefer wine, when you hit on a perfect pairing it’s a truly transformative experience.
  • Cheese knife or just dig in? Knife, but crackers are optional 🙂

      • Romance or mystery? Not my usual genres, since I’m more into literary fiction, but I know I need to expand my horizons.
      • Dog-eared or pristine pages? Pristine.
      • Read with coffee or tea? One coffee, followed by many teas.
      • Morning readers or night owls? I like to read around the clock, any chance I can get.
