Meet Liz—A New Healer on the Scene

by | Apr 6, 2025

If you’ve been curious about acupuncture, consider coming to HudCo on a Thursday. Elizabeth Roper, a Dobbs Ferry resident, mom of a toddler, longtime wellness pro, is now part of our community of practitioners. She’s an acupuncturist and plant-based herbalist with a full-blown wellness center in Astoria, and she’s bringing her healing touch up the river.

Whether you’re dealing with an injury, stress, or just want to feel more aligned, Liz might be the person you didn’t know you needed. Keep reading to learn more about what brought her to Chinese medicine, what she listens to on long runs, and what she’d tell someone nervous about trying acupuncture for the first time..

To start off, introduce yourself to those reading who don’t already know you—where you’re from, what brought you to practice in Dobbs Ferry?

I’m Liz! I live in Dobbs Ferry with my husband and 2-year-old daughter. I’m an acupuncturist and plant-based herbalist. I own a wellness center in Astoria, Queens, and am now offering treatments at HudCo on Thursdays. Come see me sometime!

Was there a specific moment in your upbringing or personal life that motivated you work in this field?

I’ve always had a passion for natural healing and wellness. Growing up as a competitive soccer player, I played at the Division 1 level in college, and it was there that I began to explore alternative forms of healing to treat sports injuries and improve my performance on the field.

I quickly learned that acupuncture and Chinese medicine could do so much more than just treat physical pain—it could support overall well-being, improve energy, and help with so many aspects of health. This sparked a deep curiosity in me, and I wanted to learn more.

I felt inspired to study Chinese medicine so I could share this holistic approach with others and help them improve their health in ways they might not have imagined.

What are you listening to lately?

I love the Rich Roll podcast. It’s one of my favorite health and wellness podcasts.

If you head into the city for fun, what would you do there?

If I head into the city for fun, I’d probably start with a plant-based restaurant—I love trying new places with fresh, creative dishes. But if I’m spending time with my daughter, we’d likely go somewhere more family-focused, like the zoo, a museum, or the Natural History Museum. It’s always a great way to learn something new together, have fun, and create lasting memories.

For someone who’s never tried acupuncture, what’s the one thing you’d say to ease their fears before their first session?

I’d tell them that acupuncture should be a very gentle and relaxing experience. The needles are super thin, hair thin actually, and some people barely feel them. It’s normal to feel a sense of calm or relief during the session, and I’ll guide them through the process every step of the way to make sure they feel comfortable.
