Meet Linda, Market Director of TaSH Farmers Market

by | May 25, 2025

Before we dig into baby goats, buttery nectarines, and the magic of market Saturdays, let’s start with the human at the heart of it all. Meet HudCo member Linda Eder—a local powerhouse with a love for fresh food and community, and the energy (somehow!) to wrangle both farmers and toddlers. We asked her to share a little bit about her journey, what’s in store for this season at TaSH, and the market memories that have stayed with her.

Before we dive into all things farmers market… let’s talk about you! Where did you grow up, and what kinds of things light you up outside of work?

I grew up on a small hobby farm in Minnesota until I was 11, when my family moved to North Salem, NY. I’ve been rooted in the area ever since. Outside of work, I love hiking, baking and reading, but these days, most of my energy goes into running after my young kids!

TaSH is such a gem—what sparked the idea in the first place? Was there a lightbulb moment or more of a slow burn?

TaSH was born from the passion and persistence of a small group of TT + SH residents who dreamed of a better farmers market in their community. It was definitely a slow burn—built on dedication, hard work, and patience. Watching it grow into what it is today has been incredibly rewarding.

What are some of your favorite local spots? Any hidden gems you love to shout out?

Hastings Yoga is a favorite, I absolutely love it, and I’ve recently gotten into classes at barre3. HudCo has been a game changer for my work life. And for treats and sips: Savvy Sips in Irvington and Penny Lick in Hastings are just a couple of my go-tos… there are honestly too many gems to name!

The summer season kicks off this weekend (!!!)—what’s got you buzzing with excitement this year?

We have an incredible opening day lined up! In addition to our amazing vendors and live music, families can meet and bottle-feed baby goats Tulum and Isador from Wild Roots Farm. Plus, there’ll be a live pottery demo by local ceramicist Connor McGinn—watch as bowls come to life right before your eyes!

Are you into any good books, podcasts, or playlists lately? We love a recommendation!

After years of reading mostly kids’ books to my children, I’ve finally gotten back into reading for myself, and it’s been such a joy. I’m so grateful to Picture Book for helping reignite that spark. Some recent favorites include: Horse, Such a Fun Age, This Tender Land, The Cliffs, I’ll Show Myself Out, and James.

Is there a market snack or vendor meal you have to grab every Saturday?

This is such a tough one! Most markets run on a steady stream of coffee and slices from Mostly Dough, but there are a few seasonal items I must go home with when available:

You must have a million stories from market days—what’s one that really stuck with you over the years?

So many! We always say that market life could be its own sitcom. I’ve seen a little boy devour an entire container of cherry tomatoes, met a shopper with a pet pig, and even hosted the Headless Horseman—on horseback!

But one very sweet and simple moment has always stayed with me. In our first or second season, I was chatting with a vendor as a woman came in to shop. Her determined energy piqued my curiosity, and I asked her what she was shopping for. She shared that she had purchased a specialty sausage the week before and used it as a main component in a dinner later that week. Everyone LOVED it and couldn’t get enough. She added that no one ever raved about her cooking. She was clearly hooked and, on a mission, for another win.

I was so excited for her; she had this huge dinner win, and she was hungry for another one. I’ve often wondered about her cooking journey and if shopping at the market helped her enjoy the endless chore of getting food on the table for a family. It’s possible that this one great meal led to a whole new chapter of happy and delicious dinners and connection around the table. I love that we get to be a small part of those moments.

Where do you see TaSH heading in the future? Any dream goals or big ideas cooking behind the scenes?

We’ve come a long way in 10 seasons and in a way we’re just getting started.

Last year, The TaSH Farmers Market celebrated its 10th season, marking a decade of community, fresh produce, and local craftsmanship. This milestone not only highlights our commitment to supporting local farmers and artisans but also reinforces our vision for the future.

Now, we’re focused on the next 10 years. Our plan is to strengthen the relationship between our farmers and our schools, incorporate more sustainable practices, and enhance community engagement to create a more vibrant hub for healthy living and local culture.

Yesterday (May 24) was TaSH’s opening day—it’s now open every Saturday through Thanksgiving from 8:30a-1:30p at Patriots Park on Route 9 in Tarrytown… keep an eye out for Linda.

And support the TaSH in their 2025 crowdfunding campaign! Let’s get them to their goal.
